THIS IS THE “RAGDOLL” CAT

Known for their wonderful laid back and loyal temperament the Ragdoll will flop in your arms like its name sake, and gaze at you with the most stunning blue eyes, and if you are really lucky you will be met with the most wonderful of Ragdoll smiles.

These fabulous cats know just how to melt your heart, and have you fall in love with them in a second, and it doesn’t end there, very often you will find you wont be able to help yourself and before you know it you’re off to get another one.

Hence the slogan - “ONE IS NEVER ENOUGH”

The Ragdoll originated in California and though still remains quite rare outside the USA has become very popular and sought after  in the UK.

Their breeder Ann Baker owned a white cat named Josephine who was involved in a road accident leaving her with permanent injuries. When she had her subsequent kittens, they were found to have particularly laid back, placid natures and would completely relax when picked up. She went on to experiment and breed more of these gorgeous kittens and so the Ragdoll was born.

Large and robust with semi long haired, non matting coats and magnetic blue eyes - Ragdolls have the sweetest of temperaments and are usually good with children and other animals. They are very loyal to their owners and will follow them from room to room, rarely leaving their side. They are quiet cats and are playful like little puppies. Ragdolls are slow to mature, being around four years of age before they are fully grown.

Ragdolls are what is termed “colour pointed cats”. This means they have colour on their face, ears, legs and tails with bodies that are lighter in colour. Blue and Seal are the two most common colours, but they also come in lilac, chocolate, cream and red.

Ragdoll patterns can include colour point, mitted, bi colour tabby/linx, and tortie.

It is important to know that  Ragdolls are indoor cats and can only venture outside in enclosed runs or when supervised, as they are not streetwise. If trained early enough the Ragdoll can be encouraged to stay by your side when in the garden.
